July Update

Hello everyone,

It's been a busy couple of weeks at More Song HQ.

We were very kindly hosted by Hyde Park Book Club on June 29th for Little Songs, a fundraiser workshop exploring the contemporary sonnet form. Reading and discussing work by Nat Raha, Ted Berrigan, Diane Seuss, and Bernadette Mayer led to some fantastic experimental sonnets being written.

Then on July 3rd we were back at the 1 in 12 Club, where we were joined by Lenni Sanders, Maya Caspari, and Caleb Klaces. Their work engages with our relationships with each other and the world in ways that push against the boundaries of poetic expression with beautiful idiosyncracy.

A shout-out is also due to our open micers - Elaine Ewart, Keith Fenton, Robin Darker, and Elizabeth Taj-Radice. It's always such a good feeling to see familiar faces from the More Song crowd take to the stage, and to hear from first-timers too, so thank you all for sharing your words.

This month's event took place against the backdrop of the British government's increasingly hostile approach to artists and activists, and we were consistently reminded of the importance of communities like ours. More Song grew out of the unshaking belief that art makes us more attuned to the necessity for solidarity and empathy with other lives, both human and non-human.

With love and gratitude,

David and Tom
